Case Study: Harrow International School Graduation Photobooth — How One Photo Strip Became a Keepsake Students Took Home

In June 2026, we brought a photobooth to Harrow International School Hong Kong and set up an instant-print photo zone at their Year 8 Formal 2026 graduation event.

A graduation is a very different job from a commercial event:
👉 It happens once, and there's no retake
👉 What students actually want isn't a giveaway — it's something they kept with their classmates

So the brief was clear: not just take the photo, but hand them something they can walk away with and slip into a wallet.

🎓 The thinking: build everything around "graduation"

A photo zone for a school formal needs a different approach from a shopping-mall activation. We focused on three things 👇

A backdrop that matches the occasion — we went with a gold sparkle backdrop, which sits beautifully against formal wear and keeps the photos feeling like an occasion rather than a party

The crest and the year on every frame — each strip carries the Harrow crest and "Year 8 Formal 2026," so ten years from now it's still obvious which night it was

📸 A few things we noticed on the day

  • Formal wear against a sparkle backdrop looks good automatically — students glanced at their strip and immediately wanted another
  • One group straight after another, friends piling in together, out and next
  • The print wall became its own photo spot — covered in strips, with students stopping to find their own
  • Nobody left right after shooting — they stood off to the side comparing strips and passing them around

👉 The queue wasn't a problem; it became part of the atmosphere

🎯 What the school actually got out of it

Every student left with a physical keepsake.
Nothing to order separately, nothing to hand out — it prints on the spot, and every strip carries the crest. The cost-per-student compares very well with a conventional souvenir.

It held the room together.
Graduation events have natural gaps — waiting for performances, waiting for awards. The photo zone filled those gaps so nobody was left scrolling on a phone.

Usable material afterwards.
The photos and design can feed the school's social media, yearbook, and promotion for the next cohort.

A print doesn't disappear.
Phone photos sink down the camera roll within months. A printed strip with the school crest tends to end up tucked into a book or stuck on a wall.

🔥 Beyond graduations — where else this works in schools

  • Formal dinners and prom nights
  • Open days (parents and children photographing together converts especially well)
  • School anniversaries
  • Inter-school events and student union activities
  • Alumni days and homecomings

👉 The common thread: a crowd, a memory worth keeping, and something to take home

💡 What we handle for school events

✔ Overall photo zone design (backdrop and frame)
✔ Photobooth equipment with instant printing
✔ Crest, year and event name built into the design
✔ Site measurement and on-site setup
✔ A team member stationed with the machine throughout, so nothing stalls mid-event

👉 On the school's side, it's essentially a space and a time slot — we take care of the rest.
