Case Study: A Photobooth at York Kindergarten — When the Booth Goes into a Kindergarten, It Isn't Only the Children Queuing

Case Study: A Photobooth at York Kindergarten — When the Booth Goes into a Kindergarten, It Isn't Only the Children Queuing

In May 2026, we brought a photobooth into a campus event at York Kindergarten, setting up a Korean-style "인생네컷 / LIFE FOUR CUTS" themed photo zone.

Kindergarten events differ from commercial ones in one particular way:
👉 The children are the stars, but the ones who really want the photo are usually the parents
👉 Getting the whole family looking presentable in one frame only happens a few times a year

So the brief wasn't about speed. It was about getting three generations to stand together for one photo.

🎀 What a kindergarten setting demands from the design

✔ Bright, varied frame colours — orange, green, yellow and powder blue with Korean-style sticker elements, which suits young children far better than anything formal
A small wooden stool — the most useful prop on site: a child steps up, their head reaches adult height, and the family photo suddenly composes properly
Height and controls that work for both — comfortable for adults to operate, still within a child's reach

📸 A few things we noticed on the day

  • Parents were more into it than the children — plenty of mums and dads pulling their child into frame while fixing their own hair
  • Three generations in one shot — grandparents joined in more often than we expected, and those are the prints families hold onto
  • Some children came in traditional dress, which looked especially good against the themed backdrop
  • Strips covered the wall and the glass partition — a grid of colourful prints that became the most eye-catching thing in the room
  • Parents took their strip straight over to their child, pointing at it and explaining "that's you," with the child grinning back

👉 In a kindergarten setting, a small paper strip carries far more weight than you'd expect

🔥 Where else this works for kindergartens and primary schools

  • Graduation and completion ceremonies
  • Parent-child days and open days
  • Christmas, Lunar New Year, Halloween and other themed events
  • Admissions days (parents visiting with a child leave with a print, and the visit sticks)
  • School anniversaries

👉 The common thread: parents on site, children present, and a moment worth keeping

💡 What we handle for school events

✔ Themed visual design (backdrop and frame colourways)
✔ Photobooth equipment with instant printing
✔ School name and event theme built into the frame
✔ Child-friendly props and setup (the wooden stool, sticker elements)
✔ Site measurement and on-site setup
✔ A team member stationed throughout, helping with children and handling anything that comes up

👉 Teachers are busy enough on the day — the photo zone isn't something you'll need to staff.
